Rose-colored glasses have always indicated to me that the person wearing them is full of fantastical dreams that most likely will never come true. But then as I saw today, without the rose colored glasses we lose a lot of ideas, dreams, thoughts, ambitions and pieces of joy. After our first student council meeting, my perceptions about student leadership changed dramatically. Kids are inherently innocent but also so eager to place paint on a blank canvas whereas as adults, we mull over the correct color choice and the spacing and the design and whether others will like it.
It was evident today when we broke into two beautiful groups of spirit and service that our world most likely would be better off with the input of a child for the following reasons..
1. Great enthusiasm emerged for every idea
2. Impossibilities and possibilities were dreamed up so much so that the impossibilities became possible through discussion.
3. Children show us constantly that we place the limits on ourselves and society-when in reality, we all have the capability to think beyond the limits.
4. What is seen by adults as "rose-colored glasses" is really just optimism in the eyes of a child.
5. The smallest ideas generate the greatest excitement.
6. "No" is never taken as an answer choice. The answer is always yes because that idea can always be changed to create a "yes" instead of a "no."
Think about the limits you place on yourself. Think about the limits you place on others and then realize that those limits are simply constructed but they don't have to be.
