Maniac Magee is by far one of the greatest novels every written. Not only does it weave together themes of hardship, courage and equality, but it also forces one to think about what is so very important in life. This is an excellent read-aloud for grades 3-5. In addition, it provides a fabulous discussion about equality, race and diversity.
