Someone Once Told Me The Grass Was Much Greener....
This last blog post concludes the series of blogs related to life, perspective and the ability to focus on the beauty we have rather than the beauty we want.
The past month or so I have been challenging myself to travel outside my comfort zone. This meant encouraging myself not to teach summer school. This meant going on a run and feeling terrible but also great afterwards. This also meant inquiring about and participating in a new volunteer experience working with children in a different capacity (Child Life Department at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh.) This also meant practicing piano for many hours to play for an upcoming wedding. It did not sound pretty when I first started, but I'm certainly getting there. Every new experience requires a risk that many of us are never ready to take. However, as noted in one of my favorite quotes of all time...
"The Best Journeys Answer Questions That in the Beginning You Didn't Even Think To Ask"
I must say I feel different. Different in a different way, but good in a good way. Change is good. It keeps us interesting. It keeps the zest for life popping. Small shifts demand attention to detail and a new perspective on something we once saw as "old."
So cheers to a greener look at the world, a more in-depth appreciation for the grass that lies right in front of you and a sense of comfort found in staying on "your side."
I'm on "my side," and until further notice, it's looking pretty good.
