There has been great anticipation in my class this year regarding Saint Patrick's Day, the magic of Ireland and of course the luck of the leprechauns. And I must say, what a beautiful reminder it is to be surrounded by those who believe in magic. Today as I was walking around my room, looking at my classroom sink filled with green waffles left by the leprechaun twins and a postcard of Ireland also sent my them, I could not help but hear the lyrics of the song "Do You Believe in Magic?" dancing through every desk within my classroom.

If you believe in magic don't bother to choose

If it's jug band music or rhythm and blues

Just go and listen it'll start with a smile

It won't wipe off your face no matter how hard you try

Your feet start tapping and you can't seem to find

How you got there, so just blow your mind

You know and I think the difference between children and adults in regards to magic is that we spend our adult lives trying to find the magic when magic just is. Magic isn't a mystery and there is no sense in trying to find the source because there is not any real beginning and no real end. It just is. I love the end portion of these lyrics which state, "Your feet start tapping and you can't seem to find how you got there, so just blow your mind." In other words, just be. Be present. Ironically, I cannot even remember exactly how our classroom leprechaun magic started. One day I walked in and we were discussing the classroom leprechauns and thus the feet tapping began. Sometimes life isn't all about choices. Sometimes life is about experiencing the life in between the choices and letting the wind blow as it must and smile upon our backs with infinite pleasure.
