Our classroom created magic today

and it wasn't just a classroom magic moment but simply a magic moment

and if we are alive as humans-we know those magic moments are so pure and so rare

unforgettable

About ten years ago when I decided I would embark upon a vocation as a teacher, I remember pondering it

within my soul and wondering

why I had such a yearning to be such

when there were so many other vocations out there

and I remember trying to explain it to someone like this

if you have ever been in an ensemble, you know the magic that occurs when every individual is playing their own melody

but that melody no longer becomes their own when the response becomes a collective action

and a classroom has the capabilities and the wonders to be a place for all musicians and dreamers

a safe place for all students to contribute their own melody

and they often do

but we don't always listen to the piece being played-sometimes just our own part

realizing that the power of that melody is no longer their own when it becomes part of the symphony

and so we listened to, and collectively sang and analyzed and close-read "Blackbird" by the Beatles

and it was the first time in a while

where I felt that a symphony had begun to play

because every scholar had something to say

the intersections of literature and history and empathy and awareness

every melody was heard and every soul was moved

because there is magic when we all sense the music

the symphony always exists with its luring potential

but only sometimes do we sing our symphony

today we did
