A book about a resilient girl who travels through the foster system and begins to understand the meaning of love.

Evaluation

This book is probably one of the most raw, beautiful pieces of it's time. As a teacher, it brings about a new perspective and understanding of the range of emotions students are going through who have difficult home lives and those who have experienced homelessness and are not having their basic needs met. The Murphy family, where Carly lands, teaches Carly the meaning of what it feels like to be loved, to be taught kindness and courage and respect. This book truly should be read by all parents and teachers alike. It would make for an excellent read aloud or novel study in a middle-school level grade. Simply beautiful.
