A Picnic in October is an excellent picture book for an introductory unit to the importance of immigration in our country. In addition, it is an excellent picture book for the beginning stages of character analysis. Though not entirely complex, students can easily see the changes the character makes from the beginning of the book until the end of the book. Eve Bunting may be one of the most talented authors of our time.
