Dearest friends,

Every day I am priveleged to work with the children at Children's Hospital, I am reminded of two stark truths:

1. I have never really faced a "difficult time/a difficult obstacle" (at least, not like they ones they are facing)

2. Optimism is the key to a beautiful life. Some things are out of our control and as many of these children have taught me-you face every day with a new smile.

This past week, I had the opportunity to meet a kind little friend who needed some cheering up. He had the greatest laugh (of all time) and together we engaged in a lot of bubble wand magic. We made bubble soup, pretended to make a bubble bed and tried to make the largest possible bubble we had ever seen. The laughter around the room was simply magic. It took a mind away from pain and into something happy, worth remembering and most importantly...downright hilarious.

During the period of blowing bubbles, we simultaneously were watching the movie "Home." This child knew all the lyrics. However, one song struck me and that was the song entitled "Feel the Light." One verse in particular brought about a whole new meaning of life to me. In the sweetest voice he sang:

Here I go here I go

Feel better now feel better now

Here I go here I go

It’s better now feel better now

Here I am, 25 years old and I still have tears in my eyes over this sweet child. He was singing for himself, for other children and for a hope that tomorrow would be a new day- that he would feel better-that he woul heal. For those of us who are healthy, I think we, as people, tend to cloud things over with silly worries. We complain more, we see the bad instead of the good and sometimes we aren't as kind. I urge you to find someone or something that will remain a constant reminder in your life that you actually have it so good. You have it so good that sometimes the light shines too hard and blinds you. Don't be blinded. Remain thankful and continue to dilligently count the blessings you have been given.

Allow the light to lift you up and to point you in a new direction.

Sincerely,

(the one who is remembering to count her blessings)
