Though I ended the year with this story, I do think it is an excellent one to read both at the beginning and the end of the school year. Not only is there historical significance behind this story (Hurricane Katrina) but there is also many universal themes weaved together to form a truly inspiring story. This story forces students to make a variety of claims but they must use evidence to support their thoughts.
