Dear Families,

Good Evening! I hope everyone had an enjoyable weekend! We certainly have been fighting a stomach-bug in our classroom! Thus, be sure to encourage your student to wash their hands as much as possible! Thank you so very much for your support in our very first “Civil Rights” book exchange. The journal reflections I received on Friday were absolutely gorgeous. I not only could see that the students enjoyed their selections, but they worked really hard to think about writing a journal response. Students received new Civil Rights books on Friday! Their second Civil Rights book is due this coming Friday. I did go to the library this weekend, and I am slowly starting to add more books that deal with Civil Rights and Civil Rights activists in different cultures and countries. There are some remarkable books out there (as I am finding as I embark on this journey with you!)

In addition, in honor of African American history month, we are spending every Friday reading a different poem that was used to create positive change! The students did a fabulous job last week illustrating the poem first and then analyzing the poem in partner pairs.  This is a great way to teach elements of poetry as well!

A huge congratulations to all of the students who had their first orchestra concert this past week! I enjoyed every minute of it!

Warmly,

Miss Amoscato
