A great person always thinks of others. A brilliant person goes out of their way to think of others wherever they are in the world. Whether you are a teacher, a mentor, a friend, a family member, it is so important to remember to think of others and support them in their passions wherever we are. We were in Buffalo visiting our family members and my mother happened to have a student currently in her class in Buffalo at the same time. Her older sister (whom my mom also had) was in a softball tournament. And so as a passionate person does, my mom made it her mission the minute we stepped foot in the house to attend that game.
The game was cancelled on Saturday and so she texted to find out another time. The game was supposed to occur Sunday morning, but with more rain it got moved to the afternoon. With more texting and phone calls, it was settled. We would be traveling to the afternoon game. Finally, the sun came out and our whole family was on our way. We brought our Aunt who used to play softball, our 91 year old gradfather in a wheel chair, my dad, my husband, my uncle, my brother and his fiance all attending this single event. Mind you, this family gathering was for a family none of us (besides my mother) had ever met before. But we heard what a great family they were and now three of these students had passed through my mother's classroom-we joined familial forces. Every time someone shook the hand of another in grace and reunion, it was the passing of another whimsical memory to the hands of another.
Sunshine beamed on our shoulders and the pride that was in all three of their faces when they saw an old teacher was worth it. Because a little sunburn can create a whimsical love that spreads along the shoulders of those who know what a blessing it is to share in beautiful moments with others and their families. Relationships are everything. Getting to know the whole person is everything. Sunkissed love from above.
