I think every individual should find a treat for another or experience a special treat once a week. It could be anything. It could be a treat in the sense that it isn't something you normally do. It could be a treat such as visiting an unexpected friend. It could be a treat such as something you always tell yourself you are going to do...but never do. Treat. A word that can mean something edible, something experienced, something felt, something seen, something forgotten and then found. Something that rests in your thinking space but rarely ever leaves that space until you transform the thinking space into a "verb."
This was a deep beginning for what I'm about to say. Something I have found that adds a little whimsy into my laugh is a bit of a splurge on one item when I'm grocery shopping. My husband and I always go for some kind of "item" we wouldn't normally buy. It's almost like a little scavenger hunt. By splurge I don't mean "the most expensive item." Rather, just simply an item that we wouldn't normally buy because it is "too sweet" or "too unhealthy" or "maybe a bit on the pricier side." And so in the month of October (with many October type treats) I chose...for the first time in years...to buy pop tarts. Let me tell you-what an incredibly exciting moment indeed.
I think even better was that clearly the Pop tart makers were also thinking about whimsy when creating their product because when I opened my first "pair" there were two little pumpkins talking to eachother on the one and a funny little phrase on the second one. Almost as if to say, "Hey Brianna...you probably shouldn't be eating me but at least I'm a bit funny." Nothing like a little riddle to start your day.
Just a reminder that treat does imply "only once and a while." Because as with all whimsies, they lose their whimsy if repeated over and over again...because then it become routine and the magic is left behind. Tasteful choices and tasteful whimsies are essential. Little treats are always nice, too.
