For those who live in the city of Pittsburgh, today was a special day as the new Mr. Roger's Neighborhood movie entered the theaters. Tears for me dropped probably about four times within this movie. Quite honestly, I think it was one of the most clever movies as the transitions between Mr. Roger's neighborhood and the main character's neighborhood in New York city connected and transitioned seamlessly. At surface level, one might say that this movie had "very little to do with Mr. Roger's and his life." However, I think if you stand back and look at the movie as a whole, you realize all the psychological nuances of the Mr. Roger's show as well as the philosophies of Mr. Roger's himself are tirelessly weaved into absolutely every scene-brilliantly so.

But what I thought about most deeply during this movie was the fact that many seem to think Mr. Roger's automatically found a great neighborhood and great people and great ideas. But what we fail to understand is that life isn't about "finding" a neighborhood (because there is no perfect neighborhood.) Rather, its about creating the neighborhood you wish to see. And that creation depends on you and how you choose to interact with people and build up ideas and share in love and conversation and feeling and give compliments freely and look deep into someone's soul when they are talking to you. The creation of a neighborhood is a lifetime of hard work. Mr. Rogers was a beautiful man (not without flaws) but the discipline he had helped to create the neighborhood he wanted to see. Don't waste your life looking and moving around and trying to find that perfect neighborhood. Instead, channel your inner energy into creating that neighborhood you wish to see and realize it will be more difficult and will require hard work and will demand you think and feel deeply-but in the end, it will be so very worth it and full of joy.

Every day is a beautiful day in this neighborhood. Ride your trolley wherever it takes you.
