A tree has been in the neighborhood for years and has always been the center of the town's wishes. Unfortunately, a new immigrant family is threatened and it has been decided that the wishtree should be cut down. Will the tree survive? What about the stories from past and present?

Evaluation

This book was incredibly exceptional. I have yet to read another book from the perspective of a tree. I loved how the animals chattered with one another throughout. In addition, I love how the author brought to light this issue of immgration and how diversity is beautiful but unfortunately not all are in agreement with this. From both angles, the tree and the tree's personality captured what is going on in our nation in a way that is friendly for kids-certainly a hard task. I have read Katherine's book "The One and Only Ivan" and I thought this was even better. Truly worth multiple readings to really get at what is special about this particular book.
