Today we first visited Glastonbury Abbey. It was quite interestingly a "hippy town." This is home to the Glastonbury music festival which houses some of the biggest names in rock. People backpack for miles to catch the music! The shops around Glastonbury were quite new-age type shops. Witchery was in one, fortune-telling in another and incense was burning from every small shop. It was as if you were stepping back into some secret garden. The Glastonbury Abbey or rather the remains of it were worth seeing surrounded by fields of green pastures. The inside was equally as impressive.
Later, we traveled to Blackmore farm. This farm was quite impressive and it was evident that the family had a passion for history and restoring the house back to its original form. And this lead me into thinking-passions aren't always what we think they should be. It's not necessarily a career but sometimes can become one. House restoration is a passion that we don't normally think of but a passion never the less. The research that must have occurred in order for this house to be historically accurate is incredible. The authentic farm meal, the tapestry on the walls, etc.
The Cardiff castle was our next stop. This is a famous destination spot and many famous individuals have come through here including president Obama. Meetings are held at this castle and football matches outside on the greens. The most memorable room in the castle happened to be the children's nursery area. The children who lived here spoke 5 languages. In an era where tv and video games did not exist much time was actually spent learning. Around the room were old fairy tales from The Brothers Grimm AIG as red riding hood and aesops tales etched into the wood. Once again, a passion for education very clearly ran through the walls of this household!
