Every once and a while, you forget to check the weather channel and find yourself in a very laughter-filled but also rain-filled situation. Every once and a while you stand back and realize just the unbelievable odds that a small microburst would be hitting at that very moment in that specific spot and that particular time. As I was waiting outside for dinner, I suddenly noticed a dark rain cloud looming overhead, suddenly that raincload became a sprinkler which then turned into buckets of sideways rain. And you know you are in a good space when the people surrounding you aren't the least bit concerned about the rain or their food becoming soggy. Conversations are had as humans we connect with "Are you going to attempt to run inside? Are you going to try to stay outside under the umbrella?

While all this joy was being had and the rain not once disrupting the food being eaten, we finally made out way back to our humble apartment realizing that as we were traveling we were seeing trees thrown across the highway, branches ripped apart, traffic lights out, apartment lights dimmed and more. Nothing like an eight hour power outage in the evening full of real candles and fake candles in every corner of the apartment. I can't say I was disappointed about the fact that for once, I was completely disconnected from the internet. But how very interesting that our own little section of Pittsburgh was one of the only areas to loose complete power and to be labeled as a "small microburst." All of the damage occurring while we were minutes away in a nearby neighborhood enjoying dinner.

And it got me thinking about how I used to think the phrase "The right place at the right time" was a bit of a ridiculous statement. But then you begin to realize just how true that statement is. There is such thing as being at the right place at the right time or the wrong place at the wrong time. Sometimes you are hit head-on with a squirmish you weren't even aware was going to rip down your trees and the beautiful grass you have created for yourself. Then again, sometimes you are miles away enjoying the joy and looking at the storm from a completely different perspective. Because at the time of the storm we felt happiness not fear and hope not harm, adventure rather than confusion and delight rather than distress. Maybe we were on the correct side of the storm this time-but that is not always the case. Whatever side of the skirmish you find yourself in today, find peace in where you are and realize wherever you have landed is currently "the right place at the right time." Though tomorrow, it may look different.
