I had my second soccer practice/game with some of my team at Northview Heights. The sun was shining, and one of my players brought her baby brother Sonny (ironically.) Truthfully, there is nothing more energizing than watching a two-year old and also trying to coach soccer at the same time.
What was unusual about today is we didn't have our normal episodes of frustration. In fact, just the opposite. We were playing the blue team and certainly losing. However, any time the other team scored, one of the players on our team would erupt in giggling laughter and fall to the ground and the rest of the teammates would pile on top of each other screeching with laughter. We spent most of our soccer game on the ground-laughing.
And I had to smile regarding this encounter because it showed how much wisdom children have that adults don't. How many adults have you seen on the sidelines screaming at the top of their lungs, "Go to the net!" "Get the win!" Am I right? Their focus was on eachother. Their focus was on community and common laughter. Their focus was on the hilarity of their mistakes and their ability to bring eachother up even when they were quite literally down on the ground, cheeks resting against the dirt in the biggest, grassy giggly pile you have ever seen.
Giggles travel through the wind and those seeds land amongst the souls who need them the most. The wins are just left along the sidelines when the game is done. Think about that if you find yourself, cheek against the grass. A pile of giggles may be just what you need-to find your true victorious self.
