I've been thinking about topics to blog about.
Things that empower my soul and spread kindness and love.
Things that allow me to continously practice gratitude particularly when the days seem tough.
And so I've decided to record every random act of kindness I witness or see in my daily life. It could be big or quite small.
I'm hoping by doing so, I begin to focus on the positives and the beauty in the world in which I see and live rather than constantly focusing on all that needs to be done to create a brighter world.
Perhaps just allowing the kindness and myself "to be" will create the brightness I hope for.
Today's beauty unfolded at Aldi which happens to be my favorite Saturday morning activity before leading a girl's group.
The sun was shining yet again and the people inside were incredible friendly. As I was standing in line, a man in front of me began unloading a good 60 or so items from his overflowing cart. I smiled because I felt no pressure to have the man hurry along as it was Saturday and for the first time all week, I could just "be."
Well the cashier seemed to be a bit disheartened by the fact that I had two items, and the man in front had about 60. So he politely asked the man who was unloading if I could step ahead of him. The man shrugged and said, "okay." And I surpassed those 60 items and quickly checked out my two items in less than one minute.
As I turned to leave I did my best to smile with my eyes and said, "Thank you for your kindness this morning. It has not gone unnoticed." To which he replied, "Absolutely. I hope you have a wonderful Saturday."
To those reading-most of you are saying "Wow. Lame." But truly these acts of kindness happen every time I go shopping at that particular store. There is just something noticeably beautiful about the culture of the store and the empathy that the workers wear on their sleeves.
The cashier was very present. He noticed. He wanted to make a situation better and so he did just that. He listened.
I'm thankful for the spilling sunshine moving through shopping carts today.
I'm also thankful for my first true post of intentional gratitude.
