This particular book is about a boy named Danny who is Native American and has just moved to New York City. His dad is a steel worker and thus his job is dangerous. Danny experiences a difficult time fitting in with his new school and new culture. A lot of historical traditions and cultural nuances streamed beautifully throughout this book.

Evaluation

An excellent book, in my opinion for students in third grade and up. Truly there are not many authentic multicultural books for students to read. Many of the books produced are either geared for older readers or contain content that is inappropriate for students who are in third grade and below. Certainly an interesting read. The author is quite talented at slipping in the historical elements of Native American culture as well to produce an authentic, engaging story for youngsters.
