No one is ever too old to read "A Snowy Day" by Ezra Keats. This book is a tribute to Ezra as it explains where he came from and why he wrote the picture book depicting the first black character. Colorblindness and whiteness as well as racism are woven throughout.

Evaluation

I truly have never read a more powerful book. I explored this as a two week read-aloud with my students in third grade and boy did they soar with it. Though many of the words and ideas are challenging, you will be surprised just how deep the discussions you can have with children as young as nine years old. This is a book that will be a staple for many years to come.
