It takes a leap of faith
to really move forward in any physical or psychological capacity
This morning I was doing my best to document (in photos)
what it was like to watch someone leave home to
pursue dreams far far away
and there was this moment when my father-in-law
insisted on making me coffee
where I was sipping and he was talking
and I was sipping some more
and his words were too profound not to record
and so he said
"You know..my patients always come and see me and say
how could you let your daughter go so far away? UCLA is so far.
My gosh. I don't know how you are doing it."
and he said his reply is always the same...
"I came to the Untied States with no money and no language
far away from my parents and my family, and I was able to fly. I learned. I made it.
I know she will too."
No one really knows how things will work out
but I look in awe at the people who are confidently able to trust
that adventure is sometimes best
and to urge those around them to fly on that adventure
family will always be family
regardless of how far away
that may be
thank you to the parents
who work toward trust
to set us free
