Sometimes when you are a youngster and you cannot fully comprehend when a transition is going to happen, you tend to do best when there is a fair warning or a signal. For Luna, this is both wind chimes and a habitual "goodbye" to every object in the environment we are currently departing. It's almost like a goodbye moon sort of variation of life but it makes me smile when we "say goodbye to our morning walk" or "goodbye to the park" or even "goodnight to LA" approximately 15 minutes before it happens. For those who are educators and also parents, it is incredibly interesting to find the parallels of life lessons that worked inside the classroom and those that work just as well outside the walls of the classroom and transitioning signals are beneficial to all in both settings-as are routines. Having a routine provides both a purpose and a steadfast focus in making sure we are living out life to the fullest. Routines need not be freedom carry aways but freedom amplifiers because in providing a routine you are freeing sleepiness, crankiness and distraction and allowing a fresh soul to blossom. New routines are also difficult to establish-particularly when you are leaving an old routine behind. But just look at it as a fresh coat of paint on perhaps a previously tired door. Any new routine allows for a new adventure and adds a detail to the door that didn't exist before. So if you are an adult still trying to figure out a new routine, give yourself grace. And if you are someone who has been in the same routine for a while and looking for a change, think about ways to repaint the door into something different. As we say goodnight to LA this week, we are thankful for our new routine that allows our souls to thrive like wildflowers. We look forward to seeing new blooms as we continue through the year.
