Today was the day before break and as a class we were busy trying to finish up about 3,000 projects we needed to finish, read alouds, other literature books, etc. But for whatever reason, today seemed less rushed than the other days, and I think for the first time all year I was able to reflect a little bit on the beautiful class I have been given, their personalities and unique backgrounds and just the constant giving that unfolds around my class. And the thing is, when you are trying to move 25 children in a forward direction throughout the day, sometimes you tend to miss these small moments of gratitude and the multiplication of love that spreads every day.  Out of my five years of...

Our morning meeting today was filled with shareouts of festivities and favorite moments regarding Thanksgiving.. Here is what we came up with... 1. I'm thankful for the homemade noodles I made with my sister-they go in a soup and they are so good 2. I'm thankful I get to play outside football with my family. It's kids versus adults and adults usually win 3. I'm thankful I get to spend time with my Grandpa-he spends all his time on us, and I want to give to him.  4. I'm thankful for my cousins that are coming over 5. I'm thankful I get to spend Thankgiving with my friend-except her family eats pizza and ranch not turkey 6. I'm thankful I get to make cookies to then give to everyone during...

One of my students left for a few weeks to go to Mexico to visit family. She was not supposed to return until after Thanksgiving but it was a beautiful surprise when she walked in the door early on Tuesday. Everyone was so excited to see her. With the kindest smile she gave me a colorful bracelet, a warm hug and a big package of Bubbaloo gum. The students were pretty excited for me to try the gum so while two of the girls helped tie the bracelet on my arm the other one opened up the box of gum. We picked the flavor as a class and 25 curious eyes stared at me as I chewed and chewed-waiting for my reaction. It was seriously awesome gum. It was gum but also had a gusher like filling so when...

Following church today my husband and I attempted to head to a breakfast place which was closed thus we decided to explore the Strip District with the intent of eating something yummy. While our minds were set on a specific place, we decided upon a closer place that we happened to pass by at 10:00-the exact time the restaurant was supposed to open on this fine fine Sunday. With an urge to eat, we walked inside and had the most beautiful Italian breakfast. In fact, though neither of us have visited Italy, with my Italiano coffee, I felt like I was there.  This was the first weekend my husband had both days off (Saturday and Sunday) since this summer and so this breakfast was essential like...

For those who live in the city of Pittsburgh, today was a special day as the new Mr. Roger's Neighborhood movie entered the theaters. Tears for me dropped probably about four times within this movie. Quite honestly, I think it was one of the most clever movies as the transitions between Mr. Roger's neighborhood and the main character's neighborhood in New York city connected and transitioned seamlessly. At surface level, one might say that this movie had "very little to do with Mr. Roger's and his life." However, I think if you stand back and look at the movie as a whole, you realize all the psychological nuances of the Mr. Roger's show as well as the philosophies of Mr. Roger's himself are...
